Excited and anxiousNew to DIY, Diane and Steve were both excited and anxious at the task they had set themselves of decorating their new home. As a teacher and nurse, budget was a major consideration so making the right choices to work with existing furniture was critical. The first task they set themselves was to complete the lounge, dining and hallway areas. The lounge needed a colour that would be clean, fresh and light by day but calming and relaxing at night. Resene Bud fitted the bill perfectly. The fireplace, once an ugly light brown was transformed using the lightly textured Resene Sandtex tinted to Resene Mondo. Moving into the hallway, the James were keen to achieve flow between the living and hallway but felt that Resene Bud would be too dark. In a clever compromise, Resene Kangaroo was selected for the dark end and Resene Eagle at the light end to balance both ends. The main bedroom started off dull and depressing, a far cry from the dark, moody and groovy atmosphere desired. A scheme of Resene Kangaroo on the alcove and Resene Hot Purple for the rest of the room banished the depressing spirits forever. A sofa is still to be added to the alcove just to finish off the area. The last project was the study. The preferred colour was Resene Grenadier but recognising that orange might be a little too much, Resene Chicago was used on one wall to break up the orange. Three canvases were painted in Resene Chicago with splashes of orange, purple and white. Wooden blinds are currently in progress and then the room will be complete.
